Why Can't Fire Retardant Dock Seal Components
Protect Against Fires from Trailer Marker Lights?

  • Fire retardant foam and fabric has been available for many years from all dock seal manufacturers, but it is not a solution to this current problem.

  • Fire retardant materials, by definition, must first catch on fire to trigger their fire retardancy.

  • Fire retardant materials will continue to burn as long as the flame source remains in contact, and will self-extinguish once the flame source is removed.

  • Heat-dissipating dock seal materials, in contrast, will not catch fire due to the heat of trailer marker lights.

This video demonstrates how fire retardant dock seal components can still burn, and should never be considered sufficient protection against the danger of dock seal fires from the heat of trailer marker lights.

Fire Retardant

  • New dock seal technology has been developed by Frommelt that dissipates the heat of trailer marker lights and prevents it from reaching temperatures high enough to cause burn damage to dock seals.
  • Frommelt Firefighter® components are the only heat dissipating dock seal solutions available today and the only products that can prevent burning from the heat of trailer marker lights.
