| • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires trailers to have rear identification lamps.
• These ordinary lamps, in open air, do not generate significant heat, but when backed into a compression-style foam dock seals, temperatures can rise up to 900 degrees F in as little as 20 minutes.
• Highly flammable dock seal materials can smolder and burn, and eventually erupt into flames, especially upon the intake of oxygen as the trailer leaves the dock.
• Simple fire retardant materials cannot prevent this burning.
